Natural + Cruelty Free Foundation Guide

April 4, 2018

Foundations are such a personal choice when it comes to makeup. They are the canvas for everything to follow. Everyone has different skin types, skin needs, and preferences. I think its so important to take opinions from various sources when choosing the right fit of foundation for these very reasons. Many green beauty bloggers have their favourites, as I have mine.. but my favourite won’t necessarily be yours. So, when putting together my foundation guide I wanted to be as objective as possible. I had originally hoped to create a chart that was an easy visual but had too much to say about each product and found that it wouldn’t all fit on a chart. So I decided I would write a list of things I would want to know about when choosing a foundation.  Each foundation is listed with the following information: My personal shade (for reference), cost, where to buy, coverage, is it buildable?, viscosity, finish, # of shades available, is it vegan?, is it organic?, SPF?, how its best applied, think dirty rating if available (a rating scale that determines toxicity), the brands description, and a mini review (provided by myself, from my own personal opinion based on my own skin). I’ve also included a shade guide for each product.

Root 100% Lash + Pretty Gloss Review

March 23, 2018

I have had my eyes on all the pretty colour palettes coming from Root for a while now. Make up is something I’ve played with since I was a little girl, then I went through the awkward “over makeuped” teen stage, to finally settle into the “enhance what you already have” game. I love a good nude lip,  voluminous lashes and neutral palettes. So anytime I can get my hands on new mascara and a lip balm I’m in my happy place.

Vegan Roasted Red Pepper Soup Recipe

March 22, 2018

Soups are a staple in our household. As soon as the cold weather hits in Fall, we start adding these delicous and nutrient dense meals into out meal rotation. Soups can even make the pickiest eater love their vegetables. Our kids love to eat soup and this is how we get a lot of nutrients into them at once. This vegan roasted red pepper soup recipe is one of our favorites. This is the first soup that my kids ever had and started their love of soups. I have been making it for years and crave it myself. If you’re looking for a delicious soup recipe to feed your family, this is it! It’s especially delicious served with a warm gooey grilled cheese sandwich. All you need are a few simple ingredients that I’ve listed below, a blender and soup pot. A very simple recipe that anyone could make!

Baby & Motherhood

A Natural Self Care Box for New Mothers

March 9, 2018

When you’ve just fallen deep into the responsibility of new Motherhood you will experience highs and lows that no one could have prepared you for. You will be SO in love and yet SO tired at the same time, add in baby blues, 3rd degree tears, stitches, sore nipples and you’ve got the Newborn stage. Mothers are usually forgotten shortly after they have their babies as the spotlight has turned (and rightfully so) but lets not let that overwhelming cuteness make us forget about the person who is exhausted, healing and trying her best not to lose it when the 4th person overstays their welcome in a day. Mothers are dealt quite a bit in the early stages and I think its important to remember that she needs love too (and more than usual).

Cruelty Free Dupes for Cult Favourite Designer Handbags

March 4, 2018

After becoming a vegetarian over a decade ago (more recently vegan), I started reading more about the welfare of animals and the abuse that happens in the factories and farms that produce our food and goods. The more I read about the fashion trade and the atrocities that happen to living beings, I started making more conscious decisions to swap out all that I could to cruelty free. I started with food then went onto cruelty free beauty, hygiene and household products. Then I started making efforts to purchase clothing and fashion accessories more consciously. Why should I be able to end or cause pain in the life of a helpless animal for vanity’s sake.

Green Beauty Product of the Week: MUN Skincare’s Aknari Serum

March 2, 2018

I am trying to be more intentional with my products but this can pose a challenge when I have a line up of products waiting to be tested. That being said, there are always the products that I come back to regardless of how many testing phases bench them and I created the product of the week series to highlight these top performers. This week I wanted to highlight a product that I’ve come back to recently due to winter dryness. I forgot how nourishing, hydrating and plumping this bottle of goodness was. I am SO glad I rediscovered it on my shelf this past month when my skin was giving me a hard time. This product taught me so much about my skin.. it reminded me that simplicity is sometimes the key, that my skin is highly reactive and that I NEED to remember that and come back to the regimen that works best for me: minimalism. Minimalism is the philosophy that MUN Skincare was built on, thanks to Japanese influences from the creator of this coveted skincare line herself. That is why I’m sharing my love for MUN Skincare today and their minimal yet powerful Aknari Serum.

Green Beauty Product of the Week: 100 Percent Pure’s Eye Bright Masks

February 6, 2018

As promised, I am going to try my best to keep up with the product of the week series. Unfortunately, life happened and I haven’t gotten to the product of the week for a few weeks (eep, sorry guys). A few weeks ago  i shared all about my love for new found make up company Clove & Hallow and their long-lasting matte liquid lipsticks. This time I wanted to showcase one of my favourite products for the eye area (and most Mothers will agree that this is generally a problem area when you’re sleep deprived). Not only do I think that the idea of a hydragel eye mask is genius, but they are a great pick me up for anyone needing a little extra TLC in that area. They are also a perfect product to use before going out, whether it be a wedding or a night out with friends, because they lay the perfect foundation for make up by plumping up the eye area and reducing that dark blue-grey colour that always seems to set in when you’re tired.

The Hidden Risks of Toxic Deodorants + 4 Natural Deodorants that Actually Work

January 18, 2018

Whether you’ve just dabbled, or you’re head over heels into green beauty, you have likely heard about the  aluminum (amongst other harmful ingredients) lurking in your conventional deodorant stick. This is one of the worst culprits for health decay when it comes to hygiene for many reasons. My intention is never to use ‘scare tactics’ to promote natural living.. so while the information I provide on the effects of using conventional deodorant may be ‘off-putting’, I do think it is important to address the facts and the potential risks of using them. I am glad someone taught me this years ago, so I wanted to share with you some of the reasons I have strayed away from conventional brands of deodorant:

Natural Cleaning Hacks: 10 Household Cleaner Recipes using only 4 affordable Ingredients

January 15, 2018

I do my fair share of cleaning everyday and I despise using conventional cleaning products. They’re toxic, they smell so strong  that they give me headaches, and I just can’t wrap my head around “cleaning” something with another thing that isn’t actually “clean” in itself. I grew up with a Ukrainian Mother & Grandmother who each taught me everything about using the earth in food, cleaning and hygiene. Thanks to their influence, I have always used very basic ingredients to clean my home so I’m letting you in on some of my best natural cleaning hacks for the household (I do have to give credit to my Mother for passing down most of them, where would we be without our Mothers right?). Best part? You only need 4 very affordable ingredients to make every single one of these recipes/hacks. This regime will help keep your house squeaky clean, keep you on budget since you can ditch the expensive cleaners, and keep your house “chemical free”.
