My Step by Step Deeply Hydrating Winter to Spring Skincare Routine

April 5, 2018

I have had a lot of questions regarding my skincare routine as of late and I had to share the product line up that has helped mend the dry winter skin and help me transition into the Spring with a glow. Besides being all star products that are highly coveted in the green beauty world, they all have the most gorgeous spring scents which are helping boost my mood along with the sunshine that’s poking through the clouds a bit more these days. I test out products a lot but I always come back to these brands which makes them extra special to me. As someone who has suffered with terrible acne breakouts in my teen years and early adulthood, these are the kinds of products and methods that have helped pull me out of those uncomfortable moments and have helped me maintain clear and glowing skin for years.

So here it is, a quick and dirty (but really clean) green beauty skincare regime:

Natural + Cruelty Free Foundation Guide

April 4, 2018

Foundations are such a personal choice when it comes to makeup. They are the canvas for everything to follow. Everyone has different skin types, skin needs, and preferences. I think its so important to take opinions from various sources when choosing the right fit of foundation for these very reasons. Many green beauty bloggers have their favourites, as I have mine.. but my favourite won’t necessarily be yours. So, when putting together my foundation guide I wanted to be as objective as possible. I had originally hoped to create a chart that was an easy visual but had too much to say about each product and found that it wouldn’t all fit on a chart. So I decided I would write a list of things I would want to know about when choosing a foundation.  Each foundation is listed with the following information: My personal shade (for reference), cost, where to buy, coverage, is it buildable?, viscosity, finish, # of shades available, is it vegan?, is it organic?, SPF?, how its best applied, think dirty rating if available (a rating scale that determines toxicity), the brands description, and a mini review (provided by myself, from my own personal opinion based on my own skin). I’ve also included a shade guide for each product.

Root 100% Lash + Pretty Gloss Review

March 23, 2018

I have had my eyes on all the pretty colour palettes coming from Root for a while now. Make up is something I’ve played with since I was a little girl, then I went through the awkward “over makeuped” teen stage, to finally settle into the “enhance what you already have” game. I love a good nude lip,  voluminous lashes and neutral palettes. So anytime I can get my hands on new mascara and a lip balm I’m in my happy place.

Green Beauty Product of the Week: MUN Skincare’s Aknari Serum

March 2, 2018

I am trying to be more intentional with my products but this can pose a challenge when I have a line up of products waiting to be tested. That being said, there are always the products that I come back to regardless of how many testing phases bench them and I created the product of the week series to highlight these top performers. This week I wanted to highlight a product that I’ve come back to recently due to winter dryness. I forgot how nourishing, hydrating and plumping this bottle of goodness was. I am SO glad I rediscovered it on my shelf this past month when my skin was giving me a hard time. This product taught me so much about my skin.. it reminded me that simplicity is sometimes the key, that my skin is highly reactive and that I NEED to remember that and come back to the regimen that works best for me: minimalism. Minimalism is the philosophy that MUN Skincare was built on, thanks to Japanese influences from the creator of this coveted skincare line herself. That is why I’m sharing my love for MUN Skincare today and their minimal yet powerful Aknari Serum.

Lash and brow growth is a problem I hear about all the time. Just about every one of my girlfriends wishes that her brows were fuller or her lashes were longer and I have seen so many options come up over the years that I just had to share my favourite. This is a great alternative to toxic lash growth serums that damage the health of your lashes and the infamous lash extensions that are popping up in every beauty salon nowadays. What you might not know, is that these extensions don’t exactly do great things for your real lashes underneath. They have been known to cause breakage and have increased ‘falling out’ of natural lashes. I have tried this fad once myself and noticed the negative effects of extensions on my own lashes. So, here is what I would suggest instead.

Green Beauty Product of the Week: 100 Percent Pure’s Eye Bright Masks

February 6, 2018

As promised, I am going to try my best to keep up with the product of the week series. Unfortunately, life happened and I haven’t gotten to the product of the week for a few weeks (eep, sorry guys). A few weeks ago  i shared all about my love for new found make up company Clove & Hallow and their long-lasting matte liquid lipsticks. This time I wanted to showcase one of my favourite products for the eye area (and most Mothers will agree that this is generally a problem area when you’re sleep deprived). Not only do I think that the idea of a hydragel eye mask is genius, but they are a great pick me up for anyone needing a little extra TLC in that area. They are also a perfect product to use before going out, whether it be a wedding or a night out with friends, because they lay the perfect foundation for make up by plumping up the eye area and reducing that dark blue-grey colour that always seems to set in when you’re tired.

Natural Beauty Product of the Week: Clove + Hallow Lip Velvets

January 9, 2018

I have always loved to play around with makeup. I am no make up professional but it has always been my jam. When I switched to green beauty, I didn’t have any leads to the amazing green beauty brands I know and love today. I didn’t have an Instagram account, green beauty wasn’t showcased in major magazines like it is starting to be now, and stores didn’t sell brands that were natural at the time. So I took to google, and though it took me years to find the brands I love to date, I have tried so many makeup lines with clean ingredients. That being said, I have tried it all and I am incredibly strict with my rule of natural dupes having to perform just as well or BETTER than the conventional brands I once loved. The reason? I knew I would revert back to toxic options if I didn’t love the healthy swaps. This is why I tell anyone who wants to switch to green beauty that you have to find your perfect fits. Nowadays there are more brands using clean ingredients, more influencers that are sharing their passion for natural beauty and more brands creating clean and high performing products.

Kaia Earth Serum Review + How to Choose the Right Skin Care Serum

December 12, 2017

Serums have always been one of those products that I am very selective of. When it comes to choosing an effective serum, its important to know what exactly it is that a serum does.  A serum is meant to deliver nutrients deep into the under layers of your skin and is applied after cleansing & toning, and precedes oils, moisturizers, and balms. I have always wondered why on earth conventional companies would create serums with synthetic or harmful ingredients. What good could come from adding toxic substances to promote a natural organ like your skin? We don’t ingest toxic substances to promote good liver health so why do we allow our skin to ingest toxic substances thinking it will create good quality skin health? I’ve put together some tips on how I choose an effective serum for my skin and am sharing my new green beauty skin care find from Kaia Earth, their Moisturizing Serum. It soothes the skin and locks in moisture, I’ve been loving it during the harsher winter months and its found a comfortable spot on my beauty shelf.
