Postpartum is a time of healing. Most Mothers are focusing on their brand new babies and often forget to take care of themselves. There are a few things you can do to ensure quicker healing and feeling back to yourself. Having useful and organic postpartum care products on hand is especially important for new Mothers. It’s even better if you can be prepared and have these things ready for you at home before going into labor. I’ve compiled a list of my favorite non toxic and organic postpartum care products and must haves. This includes:
13+ Organic Postpartum Care Products + Must Haves
- Witch Hazel + Tucks Pads: Witch Hazel is a natural ingredient that will help tremendously with perineal healing. It also helps heal hemorrhoids which is a common complaint from postpartum mothers.
- Organic Nipple Balm: Starting your breastfeeding journey will come with some bumps and bruises for the first little bit. Your nipples are sensitive and will need a little moisture to reduce chances of cracking and irritation. Don’t worry, this doesn’t last long. But having a nipple cream on hand will ensure your transition into your breastfeeding journey will be a much smoother and less painful process.
- Organic Perineal Spray: Your perineum will take some time to heal. Especially if you’ve torn. Using a spray after toileting and bathroom trips is especially helpful in the healing process. These sprays often include healing witch hazel and other helpful herbs.
- Sitz Bath: You may not have time or the ability to take a warm herbal bath to help clean and speed healing of your perineum. A sitz bath is an easy solution. They pop right onto the toilet where you can add warm water, healing herbs and healing salts. This can be done after toileting or anytime you need extra pain relief from tears and stitches.
- Sea Salt + Epsom Salts: These salts both help heal the perineum after labor. You can add these to a sitz bath or a regular bath to soak your lady bits. These salts offer relief and speedier healing times.
- Electrolytes: You will be tired and depleted after giving birth. Taking electrolytes will help maintain proper mineral levels and keep your energy more balanced.
- Magnesium Lotion + Magnesium Flakes: Magnesium is another mineral that is important after giving birth. It is especially helpful in maintaining calm and relaxation after birth. You can either use a lotion on your legs or soak in a bath with magnesium flakes to make sure you aren’t too depleted.
- Lavender EO: Lavender essential oil is especially good for healing. I added it to bath salts for soaking and even made some padsicles using organic pads, lavender EO and some witch hazel.
- Haakaa Breast Pump: The Haakaa is one of my favorite postpartum products ever! It is a simple yet powerful silicone pump. This piece attaches to your other breast while baby feeds to collect let down. This ensures you are collecting milk, not wasting let down, and saving time. It certainly beats busting out a huge breast pump machine while you adjust to baby and feeding.
- Haakaa Colostrum Collection Kit: Colostrum is the first golden milk produced by Mothers in the first few days postpartum. It is a high dose of nutrition for baby and filled with immunoglobulins to help boost their immune system. You can pump colostrum and keep them in these collection vials in your freezer to use when baby needs some extra immune boosts down the road. Some Mothers are even able to collect colostrum a few days prior to going into labor. ** Did you know that Human and Bovine Colostrum is similar? Bovine colostrum is a superfood supplement that can boost the immune systems and heal the guts of children and adults. You can read more about this HERE and where I source bovine colostrum for our Family’s wellness cabinet. **
- Organic Maternity Pads: You will bleed for up to 6 weeks following labor. It is important to use organic cotton pads. Organic cotton ensures that no pesky chemicals sit on your skin or open wounds.
- Arnica 30C: This homeopathic remedy is perfect for pain and bruising. Alternatively, you can find the helios childbirth homeopathic kit for a number of remedies related to labor and postpartum care.
- Peribottle: These bottles clean the open wounds and vaginal area when you use the bathroom. It will help ensure healthy healing and reduce itching and soreness.
- Prenatal Vitamins: Prenatal Vitamins are still quite important and relevant in postpartum care. Many vitamins and minerals are depleted from the Mother due to pregnancy, labor and breastfeeding. Ensure you keep up your prenatal vitamins. I am especially fond of THESE prenatal vitamins. Click HERE to read all about why I opt for these prenatal vitamins over other options.
