Bliss Energetics tooth puddy is something I keep in my holistic medicine cabinet at all times. It can help when dealing with tooth decay. It can also help for bouts of tooth sensitivity for a variety of reasons (grinding, lack of minerals, etc.). I stumbled upon the company when I was looking for something to help my own Children. We had bouts of tooth decay in their younger years for a variety of reasons.
What is Tooth Remineralization?
There are many conventional dentists out there who will tell you that re-mineralizing teeth is impossible. This is not true at all. 3 Major Layers of Human Teeth
1. Enamel
There are levels of different material that make up a human tooth. The outer layer of your tooth is called enamel. Enamel is the thin outer covering of the tooth’s crown that offers protection from breaks and cracking. Enamel is composed of calcium hydroxyapatite. It is the hardest, most highly mineralized substance in the human body. But it is only one of four major tissues that make up the tooth covering the crown. Keeping enamel intact is important as it prevents damage to the layers beneath it. Enamel can re-mineralize in the right conditions.
2. Dentin
The second layer of a tooth is called Dentin. Dentin is a crucial part of a human tooth. It provides a second layer of protection for the pulp cavity and nerves beneath it. Dentin is considered the structural component of a tooth. Dentin is comprised mainly of hydroxyapatite crystals, which are responsible for its hardness and strength. It is also made up of collagen type I which helps provide mineral support to these hydroxyapatite crystals. Dentin is softer than it’s partner enamel. This allows for flexibility within the tooths structure which can absorb pressure better. Once a cavity gets to the layer of dentin, sensitivity can occur. The nerve ending are within the pulp, but the fluid movement from external stimuli can activate sensory nerves from the pulp below. This can cause sharp nerve and dental pain. Dentin is a material that can re-mineralize and regenerate itself in the right conditions. This process of repair is known as reactionary or reparative dentinogenesis.
3. Pulp Cavity
The pulp cavity is the innermost layer of a tooth. Your tooth’s hard enamel and dentin layers are mostly composed of minerals. Your tooth pulp is the part of your tooth that’s alive. It has a jelly like consistency and is comprised of:
- blood vessels
- nerves
- connective tissue
- specialized cells
Exposed pulp is susceptible to an infection and requires prompt treatment from a dental professional. Because Pulp Cavity is not made up of minerals, there is no chance at re-mineralizing a tooth that has decayed to this point.

Is Re-mineralization Possible?
Short answer, Yes!
Cavities within the enamel or not too far into the dentin can re-mineralize with the right conditions. As explained above, these two layers are comprised mainly of a mineral rich material called hydroxyapatite. This material can be influenced by minerals to regenerate itself.
That being said, not every case is a candidate for re-mineralization. It mostly depends on the depth of the decay.
Allowing decay to get too far into the dentin can compromise the tooth itself and lead to more invasive dental treatment. For this reason, it is important to consult a trusted dentist on your level of tooth decay. Having a dentist monitor the decay to watch for worsening or improvements is important. They can explain the different levels of treatment available if a situation were to worsen. The goal is to re-mineralize, not worsen the situation and end up with invasive dental work. There is no harm in having a tooth filled that requires filling. There is also something to be said for re-mineralizing a tooth and keeping the integrity of the tooths natural materials. This is not something I can answer as it requires a medical evaluation. Many holistic dentists will monitor decay if the patient wants to try and re-mineralize. They can ensure decay does not worsen during the process. They can also monitor if a cavity arrests or begins to re-mineralize.
