You’ve heard me rave about some of the make up lines carried by one of my favourite green beauty online boutiques already here. So now I’m going to talk about two different skin care lines that they carry called Black Chicken Remedies and Hurraw. These two brands have made it into my list of recommendations with flying colours so I thought I would share my favourite products from each. First up, Black Chicken Remedies comes all the way from Australia and is completely unisex. So, if you’re looking for a male friendly product line for skin that is all natural, high grade, nutrition potent, and doesn’t smell too feminine.. This line is going to be your friend. Perfect for both sexes and all skin types. So ladies, here is what to buy your man, yourself, or purchase to share!
Patricia, the owner of All Natural Collection, has found that Australia seems to have some hidden gems when it comes to green beauty care. Luckily she stocked them in her shop so we in the U.S. and Canada can get our hands on them. Patricia really wanted to give me the opportunity to test out all of Black Chicken’s skin care line and so I received the sweetest travel set containing some of their award winning products. So I thought I would share my favourites:
Complexion Polish:
Exfoliation is an extremely important part of skin care that many people skip out on. It is especially important if you’re battling acne, sun damage, or trying to prevent and reverse aging. Our skin naturally renews itself by shedding its outer layer, however, sometimes it needs a little boost to slough off the dead skin that is accumulating on the surface. Exfoliating is something you can do to help your skin renew and get a bit of a glow at the same time.
I am not always a fan of manual exfoliation and tend to lean towards enzyme masks that eat away at dead skin instead. I find that manual exfoliation can be too abrasive at times and can actually leave microscopic tears in the skins surface. There are also types of exfoliants to avoid for environmental purposes, such as those that are made from micro-beads that don’t break down and are polluting our lakes and oceans. However, there is always an exception to the rules and cleansing grains are one of those exceptions.
These grains are made from all natural ancient ingredients that will even skin tone, increase circulation and stimulate collagen production. Ingredients such as rice powder, argan powder, white clay powder, sandalwood powder, myrrh powder and gotu kola powder are milled into fine grains that you can add to your regular face wash or face cleansing oil. They add a soft texture to your cleansing routine that will exfoliate the skin surface and reveal bright, clean, and dewy skin.
Love your face serum:
Serums are another key aspect of a good skin care routine that are often forgotten. I see them as vitamins for the skin to help boost the rest of your skin care products as well as give your skin a good dose of nutrition. Serums are typically applied before moisturizers so the skin can drink up the vitamins and then get locked in by whichever skin moisturizer or oil you choose for hydration.
This serum is packed with some skin loving ingredients such as Rosehip oil (my ultimate favourite oil for skin), jojoba oil, argan oil, vitamin E, Apricot kernel oil, Evening primrose oil, ylang ylang oil, rose maroc essential oil, palma rose essential oil, sandalwood essential oil, and neroli essential oil. this oil sunk into my skin quickly which is something I really appreciate as I hate waiting to put make up on when I’m in a rush.
Love your Body Oil:
This Body oil has not only won an award for itself but it boasts a high number of raving reviews on their website. After using it myself for a while, I can totally see why. This oil is perfect for anyone who wants to prevent dry skin or help reverse dry patches. I find it is best to apply a body oil directly after the shower when your skin is still a bit damp which allows for better absorption.
This oil has a silky texture that sinks into the skin easily and doesn’t smell too potent. It is perfect for both males and females as its scent is very neutral, soft, and earthy. I found this oil to really work well for my skin and didn’t clog any pores or cause any irritations. It consists of some really high quality oils in its blend like rosehip oil, coconut oil, avocado oil, geranium bourbon EO (Essential Oil), patchouli EO, ylang ylang EO, vitamine E, lavender EO, hazelnut oil, nutmeg EO, sandalwood EO, and carrot EO.
This oil is perfect to share in the household and is going to be your best friend during harsh weather changes like the ones we have here in Canada. Not only will it add some extra moisture but the benefits and vitamins from the ingredients used will nourish and protect the skin.
Balm of Ages:
I like a good multitasking product and this one is nothing short of amazing for that very reason! The Balm of Ages is meant to be an everything balm with so many different purposes. Here are a list of examples listed by Black Chicken Remedies:
-Deeply nourishes, restores and protects skin
-Soothes itchy and irritated skin
-Nipple soother for nursing mothers
-Nourish chapped lips
-Diminish the appearance of bruises
-Makeup remover
-Relieves and heals symptoms of eczema

-Deeply nourishes hair, beards and scalp
-Reduces the appearance of minor scars and stretch marks
I have personally been using this balm on my hand. I have noticed that since being home my hands are becoming dry and chapped from cleaning and constant hand washing to prevent germs for my little one. It is such an amazing texture, silky and sets into skin very smoothly. It smells amazing and is made from some very nourishing and vitamin packed ingredients. I will continue to use this balm as a hand balm and am excited to test it out with the above list when I start to need help in those areas!
If you’re looking to test out a few of these products I highly suggest purchasing the travel kit which provides you with 6 of their products to try. It comes with the complexion polish, facial serum, body oil, balm of ages, face cleansing oil, and axilla deodorant paste (I’ve posted photos of the travel kit contents at bottom of this post). I was so in love with all of their products but the 4 above were my absolute favourites! I find that you don’t need to use a lot of product at a time which means the bottles will last. I will be sharing this product line with Steve to get him into a natural skin care routine based with oils.
Hurraw Moon Balm Overnight Lip Treatment:
Last but certainly not least is a natural, vegan, and cruelty free lip balm company named Hurraw. This has been a line that I’ve been dying to test out and I’m so glad that I did! I am so difficult to please when it comes to lip balms but this line is packed full with some incredibly nourishing ingredients and has a long list of awesome flavours to try like root beer, coconut, chai spice, mint, chocolate,
coffee bean, and a red tinted black cherry flavour. I was especially excited about their SPF sun balm and moon night balm. When checking out the different kinds of Hurraw Balm on All Natural Collections website, this caption was what sold me on choosing the Moon Balm:
“Lull yourself to sleep with this extra thick, extra creamy night balm that nourishes your lips while you sleep. Infused with vanilla, Peru Balsam and Blue Chamomile it will help calm and soothe your senses for some true beauty z’s!”
…I am addicted! This lip balm is meant to be a treatment for the lips and is best applied overnight while you sleep (but really could be worn anytime). It has a soft vanilla flavour and is infused with blue chamomile. It works and feels exactly like its described above. The texture is to die for and I like to look at it as an overnight mask treatment for your lips. This is no ordinary lip balm and it has a safe spot in my pockets and bag all day long as well. This overnight lip treatment and lip balm is going to be a new staple in my beauty and skin care routine and will be really helpful during winter when lips get easily chapped.
