I have been a little MIA when it comes to my blogging these past few weeks and there have been some good reasons why. We finally tied the knot this August and planning a wedding while Mumming AND blogging was just not working out. Then I went on a much needed honeymoon with my now Husband to Italy (bucket list item CHECKED), and when I got home? I needed to spend what I had left of Summer with my little one who was so patient while her Dad and I planned our big day. As Bloggers, we all have busy lives, times of stress, moments of severe writers block..
So how did I know I needed this break besides the obvious listed above? Here’s a round up of some of my reasons for shutting down the blog for a hot minute so I could pick up the pieces of my frazzled brain, if you can relate you might need a little blogging vacay too:
MOTHERHOOD (one word is all it takes): I was burning out. Motherhood is HARD. Its particularly harder when your little baby turns into a toddler and activity levels sky rocket (as do the tantrums). Not only am I still a Mama of a little one who avoids sleeping through the night, but things like potty training and learning how to be independent creep up quite quickly into daily life after your little one turns two. I absolutely love the toddler stage but I do remember a time when I could get a quick bite to eat or catch a few minutes of a show. These days? Not. gonna. happen. I was starting to notice the time between cleaning and blogging taking up precious moments I could be spending with my girl and this is NOT why I signed up to blog. Do I hope this blogging thing will give me a creative outlet while supplementing some bills along the way? Yes, but NOT at the expense of Family time. I will never look back and regret that extra blog post or two that I just couldn’t get to in June, I will most definitely regret missing time with my darling girl and I will shut this whole operation down before I ever see the precious time I have with her slipping away.
SELF CARE DOWN THE DRAIN: Ok, Ladies.. I discussed the importance of self care HERE with a blog post listing my top 50 ways of getting some self care in when you dont have much time between motherhood, work, groceries, cleaning, making snacks, etc. (I also shared my day at the Spa HERE). When I started to notice that I had NOT been taking my own advice I needed to take a breather. I had to regain some of the time I spent blogging and redirect it towards myself. Bloggers tend to do all their work during naps (yes, we give up those precious minutes to write. Sometimes its gratifying, sometimes its downright torture..A girl needs a break to stare at a wall some days), or when the kids go to bed. Basically, Its utterly impossible to blog when children are conscious. Sleeping babies are what Bloggers are made of, and even to my own surprise when I first started this blog, it takes SO much work to write even just ONE post. Editing, formatting, coding, linking, photography.. theres just more to it than meets the eye. So when ALL your ME-time starts to be taken up for the sake of the written word, you need a reset button and a well deserved break.
EMOTIONAL ROLLER COASTERS ENSUE: When you start to notice that all your emotions are feeling heavier lately rather than positive, you need a break. This happens a lot when babies are involved, because motherhood is an emotional whirlwind in itself. You don’t need anything extra making your hair look a little loopier, your eye circles a little darker, or your smile a little droopier. You know what fixes that? An emotional reset button and generally that comes from self care (see above ;)..). You can’t get that self care without TIME Mama, so get yourself a well deserved break!
CONTENT CREATIVITY: I dont know about you but when I start to have a harder time igniting the creativity in my writing and photos, I know I’ve pushed myself too hard. As soon as I notice my flare for creativity spiralling downwards I know I need a break. Creativity is why I love to blog and your creative flare (your brand) is what companies are drawn to when they choose who they want to collaborate with. Some time off will give your brain a much needed rest so you can go back to producing the same amazing content your followers and prospective companies are used to. I would rather take a few weeks off to rebuild ideas than to produce awful content for a company. And Im sure they would appreciate you at your best too!
BECAUSE EVERY JOB GIVES VACATION TIME: I worked outside of the home for years and I made sure I took my vacation time every year. What makes this different? Motherhood in itself is a full time job (Well, 24/7 which should qualify for more time off but……) add blogging to that mess and you’re basically a hamster that never stops running the wheel.. until you give yourself some time off that is. No one is meant to “work work work” all the time. Life is about having fun too!
The length of time off and when you take it is up to you. Its an individual thing and of course is dependant on collaborations lined up and your personal lifestyle. Just remember it IS well deserved.
Worried about losing momentum? Worried about losing followers or page visits? Trust me, the minuscule dip in stats will never outweigh the feeling of refreshment that you receive from time with your family and time for yourself.

Girl yes!!! I took a break not to long ago thank goodness it did a world of good.
so glad you took that time for yourself!!
Great post! I can relate so much- over the summer I dedicated my time to my son and blogging feel to the back burner… it felt good. Now that he is back in school I have the time and dedication for the blog and it feels natural again… all the ebbs and flows of life.
So glad you took that time for yourself and your family 🙂 its nice to reset and recharge!
So very true! I’ve been here before. I write for a living, so then also blogging for myself can lead to burnout.
it certainly can!!!!
This pretty much sums up why I just took a two week break – thank you! You’re doing it for all the right reasons. Our babies are only ever this little once and it’s important to take the time to enjoy them while caring for ourselves kindly as well!
So glad you gave yourself a well deserved break too!!!
Yes! I had definitely started spending all of my me time working on my blog, and self care took a backseat. I also started to feel like I was tapped out idea wise. When I finally took a weekend off, the ideas started flowing again!
YES! Its always when the ideas start coming …when you give your brain a rest 🙂
My blog is still in it’s infancy but some of the things you listed I have felt already lol. Motherhood is demanding but blogging is my little escape from the mayhem. I thought I wouldn’t have anything to really write about but it turned out I do have a lot to say lol so I try to split my posts to only one per week on the actual blog but I share a pic or two on my social media. So far that has helped with the burn out lol
Yes! Motherhood IS demanding and then adding anything on top of it creates a whirlpool of craziness lol hope you get some well deserved time for yourself too!
Sleeping babies are what blogs are made of… YES! The ONLY time I am focused enough to blog. Loved the title of this bog as much as the advice found with. A good and healthy reminders!
Thank you so much!!! 🙂
I LOVE this post. We’re all human. We need breaks. I’m finding lately that I can’t stick to a regular blog schedule because LIFE. Just so much going on and I know as we get closer to the holidays it will be difficult as well. At least I don’t feel alone after reading this – I’m not the only one! 🙂
We are human indeed! Im totally with you girl!
These are exactly the signs that indicate to me that I need to step back from blogging for a bit.
Exactly. its hard to remember that we need breaks too!
This is all so true and I’ve seen it in my own life so many times! Thanks for the self care reminder. And glad you had some good time with family!
Thanks so much! 🙂
Oh my! Yes, yes, and yes to everything! I couldn’t agree more! We all need a break and it’s healthy for us to take one every now and then.
