Thieves Natural Household Cleaner Review + DIY Recipes + Dilution Ratios

July 5, 2020

Cleaning my home is something I like to keep up and I especially like knowing that the products I’m using are natural as well as effective. We all know essential oils can be great tools to keep surfaces clean and get rid of pesky germs, but it’s important to get the right blend of oils to ensure you are effectively managing household germs and grime. I had always dabbled in Thieves cleaning products but when my Daughter enrolled into her first year of Kindergarten I wanted to ensure that I was managing all those germs that were headed my way each day. Previous to school, I had her home with me and while I still maintained a clean home I wanted to make sure I achieved a deeper clean without compromising on keeping conventional cleaning products out of my home. My only regret was that I hadn’t bought the entire Thieves kit sooner. I had started with the thieves essential oil to diffuse into the air at home, their foaming hand soaps, hand sanitizer, fruit and veggie soak, and concentrated cleaner and LOVED them. But adding in the laundry soap, toothpastes, on the go sanitizing spray (hello dirty shopping cart handles), and dish soap were an even bigger game changer.

Healthy + Vegetable Packed Carrot Cake Muffins (Vegan Option)

February 20, 2020

Muffins are an amazing way to get nutrient dense foods in one big swoop. I love getting new muffin recipes..the best thing about muffins is that you can pack a ton of healthy and nourishing ingredients in them. Even the pickiest of eaters are more likely to eat a muffin that’s filled with foods they wouldn’t normally eat separated. I have home made muffins on hand almost every week for my entire family to grab on the go. They make for the easiest breakfast during busy school mornings and they are a food that is well loved by my Baby. He gobbles them up! I like to play around with recipes and this is a mix of a few of my own recipes and one that my friend gave to me recently. It’s a spin on carrot cake, my absolute favourite.

Healthy Banana Muffins Recipe: Free of Dairy, Egg, Soy, Refined Sugar, and Gluten

September 24, 2019

I’ve had to switch up my diet since having my second baby. After discovering at 6 weeks old that my Son has a cow protein , soy and egg allergy, I had to remove these from my diet. Since then, I’ve been adjusting recipes to fit my strict guidelines but have had some real success with some! Banana muffins are something I can’t get enough of and when they’re baked with healthy ingredients it just makes them that much better!

With this recipe I was able to switch to almond flour, swap refined sugar for maple syrup, substitute flax for eggs, and use homemade apple sauce and coconut oil in place or butter/shortening. This recipe makes for a much healthier alternative and one that everyone can enjoy!

Make your own Elderberry Syrup: A Natural Alternative for preventing and reducing duration of viral infection

October 1, 2018

The Fall and Winter months bring with them perfect Autumn weather followed by the Traditional Holiday Season that warms everyone’s soul. It also brings with it an abundance of Viral Infections such as the Common Cold, Influenza A and B, and many bacterial conditions secondary to their viral counterparts (ie. pneumonia or ear infection). There are a multitude of reasons why cold and flu season occurs every year at the same time, the most undeniable reason being the dramatic reduction of natural Vitamin D due to lack of exposure from the sun (as compared to the Spring and Summer months when it is more accessible and pleasant to spend time outdoors). We are also at higher risk being indoors and in closer contact and proximity of others which promotes the spreading of germs. There are also suggestions that cold either preserves germs more effectively on surfaces, as well as reduces our body’s ability to fight off infection. Regardless of the source, we all know the cold and flu season all too well. We try our best to avoid contracting viral infections and I personally have a regimen that I keep my family on that feeds the body with immune boosting vitamins and minerals to keep viral infection at bay. One of my favourite ways to do this is to use elderberry syrup as a supplement and therapy to reduce the duration of infection.

A convenient one cup ceramic coffee maker + a recipe for coconut maple iced coffee:

August 10, 2018

Coffee is a love language and for some, a lifeline! Nothing makes the experience of coffee better than a perfectly smooth brewed cup. One of the things that has always been my pet peeve was that I didn’t want to make an entire pot if I only wanted one perfect cup of brewed coffee. I also avoid the plastic pod coffee machines (which may be convenient, but come with the extra waste for our Earth and are brewed with hot water through plastic pods). Sometimes I want just one conveniently brewed cup that tastes as good as it would if it came from a cafe.

Vegan “Chicken Soup” Broth: Just as savoury & high in nutrients

April 16, 2018

This is a recipe that I created out of no where. It isn’t something I was necessarily craving but now that I’ve tasted it and know the nutrient profile in the recipe, I can’t stop making it! I have been making this to eat on its own and to freeze into ice cubes as a nutrient dense broth that you could throw into cooking (ie. cook with your quinoa or add to soups). It will especially come in handy whenever I get sick next and in need of a light comfort food like broth. On top of all that, it’s super simple to make!

Hemp & Garlic Avocado Dressing & Dip Recipe

February 12, 2018

Salad dressing are usually loaded with unhealthy preservatives, sugar, and hydrogenated oils. These things wreak havoc on your system and ruin an otherwise healthy diet. I love to make my own salad dressings and this one is one of my favourites for so many reasons. I LOVE avocado and think it is the perfect replacement for creamy dressings if someone is leading a vegan diet. Not only is it a great replacement for taste, but it packs a serious amount of nutrients and healthy fats that your body needs. This salad dressing is a dream for anyone looking to improve the texture of their skin, reduce bloating, or just find healthy replacements for store bought dressings.

Vegan Roasted Asparagus, Chilli Chickpea and Avocado Salad (with Hemp & Garlic Avocado Dressing)

February 12, 2018

I am a big fan of anything avocado. That being said, I can’t bring myself to just eat them plain all the time, you need to spice things up sometimes. So, I decided to share one of my favourite warm salads with you all. It is vegan, gluten free and packed with healthy fats (something that a LOT of people are missing from their diets). I decided to write up a separate blog for the Hemp & Garlic Avocado Dressing as it can be used for more than just this salad. You can find the recipe for the dressing HERE.
